LCFHRA Virtual Meeting: Going Beyond Diversity
Presented by: Tru Pettigrew
Organizations have spent tremendous resources in the attempt to increase their diversity; evidence demonstrates that diversity drives innovation, increases creativity, allows for better recruiting, less turnover, and having a stronger place in the market. What organizations are quickly realizing however, is that diversity alone, cannot be the end-goal. Instead, the act of developing open and inclusive environments for employees and members, is
now the greatest need and challenge.
In this session, Tru works with organizations to help them move beyond diversity and the often misguided “illusion of inclusion.” He illuminates how our basic human craving of inclusive environments in which to work, learn, and play is critical to increasing performance, productivity, and profitability. The essential step, he suggests, is for organizations, is to take intentional action to allow teams of diverse racial, ethnic, gender, religious, lifestyle, life-stage, and socio-economic backgrounds to know that they are welcomed and respected through meaningful outreach and engagement.
